- - First edition of this splendid work. The bookdealer, auctioneer and publisher Koenraad Fuhri has established himself in The Hague in 1837. He published illustrated books and magazines, and in 1855 he established the daily “’s-Gravenhaagsch Dagblad”. His co-operation with Ising began in 1847 when he published the “Groot Nederlandsch prentenboek” which Ising wrote together with W. J. van Zeggelen. An ambitious enterprise, this children book required the reproduction of 700 wood engravings. At the outbreak of the war at the Crimea, Fuhri set to publish, in unbound installments, his “De Oorlog. Geschiedenis der tegenwoordige krijgsgebeurtenissen in Europa”. Ising collaborated now with the journalist Tobias van Westrheene Wz. The series was published from 1854 to 1856, in which year publisher Nijgh of Rotterdam bound the installments and offered them now in a book form. It was republished shortly thereafter under the name “De oorlog tusschen Rusland, Turkije en de Westersche Mogendheden, in het midden der 19e eeuw”. It contains a fantastic array of dramatic sketches of the battlefields and horrifying images of life under fire, views, the war at sea, topography, military architecture and engineering, individual and group portraits, and the peace treaty, equally finely executed in both techniques, i.e. relief for the wood engravings and planographic for the lithographs. Very rare. Both OCLC and KVK do not record a single copy worldwide. Not in the National Library of the Netherlands, OLIS, nor Bodleian.

Published between 1904 and 1905 by Kinkodo Publishing Corporation of Tokyo, this publication in ten volumes reached subscribers in Germany, Netherlands, India, South Africa, England, France, China, United States, and Australia; few copies, however, did survive. The scope and concept were unique. Combining news, war records, reports, stories, commentaries, and official documents together with historical background, manners and customs of the Japanese people, the Imperial family, daily life, religion, etc., it provides an unparalleled reflection of the period. The ten volumes are accompanied by an extraordinarily rich collection of visual material. It includes an extended portrait gallery of Imperial, military, and political personage; battle scenes; infantry, artillery, and naval operations; transportation; war aftermath; POW; medical corps and wounded evacuation; troops encampment; the winter campaign, etc., mixed with images of civil, daily life, weaving a fantastic tapestry of war and peace iconography. The splendid chromolithograph plates are an entrance for the eyes, and the inclusion of the fine collotype plates adds a touch of elegance to this visual celebration. Rare.

- - First edition. The Russo-Turkish Wars were a series of 10 wars, the result of Russian attempts to find an outlet on the Black Sea. It was one of the longest conflicts in European history, spanning 241 years. This book covers the events of last Russo-Turkish War. The series was published in 20 installments, from 1876 to 1878, in which year publisher Weber of Leipzig bound the installments and offered them now in a book form. It contains a fantastic array of dramatic sketches of the battlefields and horrifying images of life under fire, views and landscapes, the war at sea, topography, military architecture and engineering, weaponry, individual and group portraits. It is the scarcest of all the “Illustrirte Kriegs-Chronik” memorial books published by Weber. Exceedingly scarce. OCLC locates just 2 copies worldwide (Georgia University and Harvard University), both with unspecified completeness. KVK lists just 2 copies: one in the British Library; one in Thüringer Universitäts- und Landesbibliothek Jena. No record in the Complete Catalogue of Die Deutsche Bibliothek.
